Based on feedback of a safeblood member, this is what we have:
The best news here is that this member was able to arrange a directed blood donation for her brother as an OUTPATIENT through the EMERGENCY ROOM at Maimonides.
It takes some jumping through hoops and 48 hours to turn the blood around (they told her it might take as long as a week, but it only took two days), but you can get it done.
Basically, you have to make an appointment to give the blood at Maimonides Blood Donation Center and fill out a bunch of paperwork. When it’s ready, the blood gets sent on to the ER at the hospital, and you bring the paperwork with you when you go to the ER. You give the paperwork to the staff when you arrive at the ER, and the blood is ready and waiting for you there.
They had a typical Emergency Room wait (six hours!) at Maimonides, but they were able to get an outpatient directed donation there.
